Hello and welcome to the new Sunshine + Glow! It has been around 6 months since I wrote my last new post in the old blog and I feel so out of practice and it also feels so good to be sitting on the same sofa at my family home where I was when I decided to create this blog two years ago.
WHAT IS NEW?
I started Sunshine + Glow purely for myself, to inject some creativity into my life and write about things I loved. Over the course of the past two years I have tried writing abut different topics, have gone through different life experiences and it has made me want to switch things up a bit around here.
Firstly, I really wanted to have a better looking website and a more personal identity. So far I had been hosting the blog on Blogspot, which has served me well up until now. Last year I bought a template from Designer Blogs that spruced it up a bit but as everyone else says, it gets a bit restrictive. I wanted something that was more personal and flexible, and after much research and pondering I decided to move to Squarespace.
As well as a new platform, I wanted a new logo and for that I got in touch with Helen, founder of One Line, an ethical graphic design studio. We'd worked together in the past and I knew we’d understand each other, and I am so pleased with her work! She's done much more than create a logo and brand guidelines for Sunshine + Glow - she made me think about what this place stands for, how I want people to feel after reading it, how to choose images, use colour… it has been such an interesting process that I will write about it in more detail another day.
MORE FOCUSED CONTENT
The themes I write about won't be too different from the past. Aside from the improved website, the essence of Sunshine + Glow remains intact, but I hope it becomes a place where you find inspiration to live a healthier, happier and more fulfilling life.
There are 6 categories that all posts will fall into:
Wellbeing + fitness has become a very important part of my life. It is no secret that I love yoga, but there are lots of ways in which you can look after yourself, from physical exercise to a good morning or evening routine that will help you get a good night's sleep. To me that is just as important as a sweaty work out.
It's all about enjoying what you eat and going for the healthiest option, which doesn't necessarily mean fat free or taste free! If you have a normal budget, you like healthy food and you don't like fads, you don't have time to go hunting for fancy ingredients, here you will find some new recipes to add to your diet. I will share some of the classics I have grown up with and some new favourites as well.
I personally prefer using natural and organic products on my skin. I will share with you why I choose mostly natural, how I have made the transition and which products actually work. After all, just because something is natural doesn't mean that it is good!
This category is meant to be thought provoking or full of useful tips to make positive choices in your life, from organisation, thoughts on different aspects of life like dating, minimalism to inspiring quotes.
I've never written about blogging per se, mostly because I felt like I was learning so much and I didn't have much to add, but this process has taught me a lot and as a small blogger sometimes it can be difficult to find information that we relate to, that is inspiring and not discouraging. I've found tools that have helped me and have moved my blog to a new website which I've created myself without any previous knowledge, so I will sometimes share these nuggets with you.
I am always trying to learn new things, whether it is by listening to podcasts, watching something new, going on a trip or reading a book, so this will be a place to share all those with you.
WHAT'S THE PLAN, BATMAN?
When I first approached this revamp I had very ambitious plans to post more often and be very disciplined, but the more I adopted that attitude, the less I felt like writing, so I have decided to keep things really simple: there will be one post every weekend, starting next Sunday, with the Best of 2016.
While I mention the Best of, I have thought long and hard about this, and decided not to write them anymore, as it is a format that has been done to death. You will find my favourites sprinkled across every other category, and for those who really want to know what I have enjoyed that particular month, you can get a more compact version if you sign up to the monthly newsletter here.
And that is all for now! Thank you for being patient all these months and still reading and hope you will get lots of value from Sunshine + Glow!
