Best of August
As I write this post I'm still on holiday with my family. On the one hand I look back and I feel very happy that I've done so much this summer, but I'm also a bit sad that it all ends tomorrow when we will all head back to our respective homes. Autumn has its charm, but I am a warm weather creature, and summer is by far my favourite season, especially when it's filled with trips, long or short.
This month's short list of favourites is all about summer and all about holidays!
Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF30 Mattifying face fluid
I've been faithful to my face sunscreen by La Roche Posay for ages, but when it ran out this month I felt like trying something new even though I still really like it. Vichy is a very similar brand to La Roche Posay so this seemed a good option. This month I've learned how little difference there really is between SPF30 and SPF50, so I opted for the first. If you're interested, Caroline Hirons has a fantastic post with everything you need to know about suncare and Lisa Eldridge has a similarly brilliant video.
Waterproof eyeliner by Bourjois, in Bleu Néon
A blue eyeliner is a great option for us brown eyed girls, and I like this one because it is bright and it lasts. During the summer months when you may be wearing less make up than usual, the brightness of the blue packs up a punch and it's quick and easy, as well as heat resistant.
My favourite item of clothing is what I've been wearing for the past two days. I bought the lace white blouse in the pics at a beach called Cala Salada in Ibiza and haven't taken it off. It's perfect for throwing it over your bikini and you're ready to go. I don't think I'll get much wear out of it beyond summer holidays but it won't go out of fashion either, so I'm super pleased with it.
Travel: Wilderness and Ibiza
I'm not sure how I've pulled it off, but this summer has been one of the best. I often talk about the summer of 2000 being the best of my life, the very first time I went to the UK for an English summer school for a month, but 2015 hasn't been far off and it's reminded me how much I love going away. This month I went to Wilderness festival, which I LOVED. I talked a little bit about it in my Festival Essentials post. Right now I'm enjoying my last full day in Ibiza and as I look up I can see white buildings, blue sky and palm trees. We are staying near the marina in Ibiza town, next door to Pacha, but this is a family holiday and we've chosen small beaches over the party scene. Usually when I go somewhere I love I hope I will go back one day, but I know I will do what I can to come back here soon. There is so much to see and such variety! What I've loved the most are the laid back vibe of the island, the crystal clear sea water and the sunset we watched from Mirador des Sarinar. What I've liked least are the super windy roads!
The book: The Life-changing Magic of Tidying, by Marie Kondo
I have a feeling that every other blogger is going to be talking about this book this month, as it has been everywhere. At first glance it sounds dry and I would totally understand if you read the title and think to yourself: Really? The book itself is less about tidying and more about having less and getting more enjoyment out of it, about a life that is uncluttered, and I am all about that! The style is fairly repetitive and the language simple, so it's very quick to read, and it's the kind of book you dip in and out of while your nose in deep in another book. It doesn't require much commitment. If what Marie Kondo says resonates with you, I'd recommend you have the bin bags at the ready even before you start, as the urge to get rid of some of your less loved possessions will be impossible to resist. I ended up with 6 large bin bags of clothes and accessories and still have all my papers to go through.
What have you enjoyed the most this month?
